Mesquite ISD, in Texas, posts its substitute jobs through Frontline Absence Management (the system many subs still call Aesop). If you're on the sub list here, everything below is about that board: what shows up on it, how it's written, and what it takes to get the jobs you actually want.

Schools that post substitute jobs

We've seen postings from 44 sites in Mesquite ISD (the first 40 are listed here). Exactly as they appear on the board, which matters if you filter by school name:

  • 226 COORD SPECIAL EDU-5
  • A C New Middle School
  • Achziger Elementary
  • Agnew Middle School
  • Austin Elementary
  • Berry Middle School
  • Black Elementary
  • Cannaday Elementary
  • Florence Elementary
  • Floyd Elementary
  • Frasier Middle School
  • Galloway Elementary
  • Gray Elementary
  • Hanby Elementary
  • Henrie Elementary
  • Hodges Elementary
  • Horn High School
  • Kimball Elementary
  • Lawrence Elementary
  • Mackey Elementary
  • McDonald Middle School
  • McKenzie Elementary
  • McWhorter Elementary
  • Mesquite High School
  • Moss Elementary
  • Motley Elementary
  • North Mesquite High School
  • Porter Elementary
  • Poteet High School
  • Range Elementary
  • Rugel Elementary
  • Rutherford Elementary
  • Seabourn Elementary
  • Shands Elementary
  • Shaw Elementary
  • Smith Elementary
  • Terry Middle School
  • Thompson Elementary
  • Tisinger Elementary
  • Tosch Elementary

Spelling on the board is what counts. A district that writes “ELEM” instead of “Elementary”, or lists a campus under a classified-staff name, will trip up any filter that expects the official name. Copy the names above when you set preferences anywhere.

How Mesquite ISD writes its postings

Postings here look like this (real titles from the board, teacher names removed):

  • 187 2ND GRADE TCHR
  • 187 2ND GRADE TCHR BILING
  • 187 3RD GRADE TCHR
  • 187 4TH GRADE TCHR
  • 187 5TH GRADE TCHR
  • 187 BILING PRE-K ASST IA
  • 187 CTE TCHR
  • 187 ENGLISH TCHR
  • 187 ISS ASST IA - SECONDARY
  • 187 KINDERGARTEN TCHR
  • 187 MUSIC TCHR - ELEM
  • 187 NON-CERTIFIED TCHR

Grade levels are written into the title, so you can tell a kindergarten day from a fifth-grade day before you open it. Aide and assistant positions are posted on the same board as teaching jobs, with the role in the title. If you only want classroom teaching, read the title, not just the school.

When jobs post in Mesquite ISD

Postings here are spread across the day. Of the 39 postings we've tracked in Mesquite ISD, about 26% first appeared between 4 and 8 AM local time, 64% during the school day, and 10% in the evening or overnight. The single busiest hour was around 7 AM.

97% of those postings were full-day jobs (six hours or more). 77% started by 8 AM. 13% were multi-day assignments. When one of our members tried to take a matching job here, 0% of the time another sub had already taken it, which tells you how fast this board moves.

These numbers come from postings Sub Concierge watched for its members in this district. They describe what we saw, not every job the district ever posted, and they shift with the season.

How to get the jobs you want here

  • Get on the preferred lists. Teachers in Mesquite ISD can name preferred subs, and preferred subs see a posting before the rest of the list does. A short note to a teacher after a good day is the highest-return thing you can do.
  • Know the board's spelling. School names and titles above are how the district actually writes them. Filters and alerts that don't match the spelling silently miss jobs.
  • Decide your rules once. Which schools, which grades, full-day only or not, how much notice you need. Subs who decide in advance say yes in seconds; subs who decide per posting lose the race.
  • Cancel cleanly. Frontline tracks cancellations, and districts notice. Take fewer jobs and keep them.
